EGGS...an Easter Story...

Before I was a store owner, I was a Youth Leader. And Easter was a time that was so very commercialized, what with rabbits and eggs and candy and all.
so...the Wednesday before Easter, I told my kids(middle and high school kids) this story that I heard first hand from a Youth Leader that was there...
She had an eight year old boy named Stephen in her Sunday School class. He had some mental/ brain issues that were becoming more and more severe.
In April, she gave her eight kids an empty L'Eggs container (remember those?) and asked her kids to bring them back the next week with something inside that represented new life in spring.
The kids brought them back the next week, and not sure what Stephen had done, and not wanting to embarrass him, she had all the kids bring the eggs to her desk so that she could open them in front of the class.
The first had a teeny tiny little flower in it. "What a lovely sign of new life"...and the child that brought that one couldn't help but yell..."I brought that one"...
Next one had a rock in it. The teacher assumed this one was Stephens, so she set it aside. The student that brought that one said that was his, and it had new moss on it, and the teacher agreed that it was a good example of new life.
A small bug was alive in the next egg, and the student that brought that one said that hers was the best egg, yet!
The fourth egg was empty. Knowing that this was probably Stephens, the teacher quickly set this one aside and reached for another.
"Teacher, please don't skip mine", Stephen said.
"But it's empty," she replied.
"That's right, said Stephen, the tomb was empty and that represents new life for everyone".

Later that summer, Stephen got very sick and died. At his funeral, mourners found eight plastic eggs on his casket, all of them empty.
The true story of Stephen reminds us of the hope that we all have, because of the resurrection.
May all of your Easter celebrations have some empty eggs in it...
I wish you all a Happy Easter

my upcoming garden show, my back, my birthday, my store...

let's start with the cherubs...they will be at Monticello's garden show beginning April 9th, unless they are scooped up in the store before then...I am so excited to be invited back as a guest vendor...
this mini greenhouse might be there, too (if not this one, one or two like it...)
also making a showing at Monticello- some silver and mirrors...cuz even a gardener needs some pretties...
this little cabinet might get there...(great little potting bench?)...
the pink lights...you'll have to come to the store for these...
and all the vintage sewing items...at the store now...
along with these three Victorian albums...

I am sure some of this glassware will make it to the spring show...great for holding bits and baubles...and daffodils...
this dome came from my new favorite store, UNCOVERED RUBY in Battle Ground, WA (check out their blog!) Had a super great time up there...came home with a car load of treasures!
Including this fabulous velvet chair! This was my birthday present to myself...I have been just pining away for a small velvet chair for my bedroom...
which is where I spent my birthday...flat on my back with a pulled back muscle...ice packs, movies...and lots of books. I threw out my back last Monday...and am still recuperating...so if you see me getting carried away picking up furniture or moving heavy things around while at Monticello, please yell at me...I am not even supposed to vacuum my house (my poor husband has really become my arms, back...)- which under different circumstances might be kinda fun!
However...I am back at the store working (the chiropractor has worked wonders!)...
I look forward to seeing you all at Monticello...or if you can, stop by the store...we have loads of new items...and if you made it through this really , really , long post....THANKS! and have a great rest of the weekend!

vintage furniture...shabby and worn...

what is it about dressers...
that have little flowers painted on them?
and rustic, funny worktables on wheels? they have nothing in common, but I just love them!
and nothing screams summer like a worn Adirondack...
and a tiny gateleg table that could serve as a darling outdoor or patio table...just some of the samples of the vintage furniture that we have in the store right now...
have a super great weekend!

I wish I wish I wish that this was my studio...

I could live in this craft room...
just a cup of coffee...
and I really could live here...
it isn't my craft room...
it is my friend, Gail, her studio, from Little Beach Designs...
she has this wonderful space...one that I can only dream of...
cuz my house is so teeny, tiny...there is no space for all of these lovelies...
but when I visit...I just drool over her room...(and her great stuff!!!)
my pictures don't do it justice...it is really cooler than my photos...
and I took these pics while she was picking up her daughter from school...so won't she be surprised ... I guess I really am a snoop at heart!!!!
but...wouldn't ya just die for this room?
