Is it a real "estate" sale if 4 different people bring their stuff to a sale?

got a little bee in my bonnet today...went to a "estate" sale...
saw tags from a well known local store...
saw tags from a well known antique mall...
saw "dots"? and
saw white sticker gun stickers...

I always think of an estate sale as a place where someONE or some FAMILY is downsizing, someone has gone on to another wonderful place (heaven) or one has moved to a retirement community...
more and more I see estate companies bringing their own stuff to sales???
and I just am wondering...

what do you think?
should it still be called an "estate" sale?

just find it an odd trend...
that I see more and more...

hmmm...
opinions?

Well, since you asked and I'm so glad you did...I think it sucks big time and I would march right up to whomever is running the sale and call them on it...and I'd do it really loudly so everyone around us could hear the conversation really well.
And hopefully they'd be so embarrassed that they'd slink away never to do that again.....oops, I guess I was dreaming there for a minute. Ha!
But that is what I would do, for real, since you asked!

I agree Melanie, an estate sale implies someone's home belongings, not people's merchandise that they are selling. Clear as mud, huh? Lisa

I agree. Why don't they just call it what it is. This is blatant false advertising!

My opinion because you asked-I HATE THOSE KINDS OF "ESTATE" SALES!! There is a particular couple here in town that are always seeding the sales they do and I tend to avoid them like the plague.

It should be a garage or yard sale for sure because that is basically what it is-not an estate sale.

As for so-called "living" estate sales. Other people may like to shop them but I don't. My interest is strictly vintage items and a sale full of new imports wastes my time.

Have mercy, I feel strongly about these misidentified estate sales, don't I?

P.S. "Antiques" referring to things NOT at least 100 tears old really gets me going-LOL!!!!!

That is not an "Estate" sale in my book. Why would anyone even call it one? That is not good for business!

I had a similar experience yesterday after I drove 20 miles to attend an 'estate sale' and it was (literally) a garage sale of all the broken, leftover junk (next stop, the dumpster) from the original estate sale that had happened weeks prior. I think people are figuring out they'll draw more buyers if they call it an estate sale but what a waste of time this was. I would have been far less annoyed (with far lower expectations) by what I saw if they had just called it what it was.

Thanks for letting me vent! :-)

In Texas a" Estate Sale" is where someone has died. otherwise it's a garage sale.

I can't stand that either. I've noticed that too. It is false advertising and some of the dealers here in town have been doing it in order to attract more buyers. I'm with Gail, I usually call them on it, but I don't think it makes a difference.
