boldly go...where no one has gone before...

a pretty little oil in a gold frame...
a sweet print in a very shabby gold frame...
the frame is really, really shabby, but such a wonderful scene, an oil with raised features...
and a simple oil, no frame, ...probably a practice oil...but nicely done (at least I think so)...
ALL FOR SALE...

and the story unfolds...
I swear my basement is a breeding place for junque...good junque, mind you, but still a breeding place.
Why? you ask?
I have been working down there for the past two days...pulling out good stuff for the "garage sale"...and everytime I go upstairs for a coffee break...I come back down and there are more boxes...how does that happen?
I am surely considering not going upstairs all day today...maybe then I will conquer the boxes before they breed and take over the world...
so...does anyone else have this problem...or have I truly gone where no one has gone before? Am I in an alternate reality in my basement...only to come up for air (upstairs) where life is normal?
hmmm...maybe I shouldn't complain...at least I keep finding fun, funky, vintage items for the sale...now if I can just expand the garage behind the store...not sure it is big enough for all of the items...
I did promise pictures...more will come, I am sure...

thank you thank you thank you...

wow...what a great season it has been! The holiday sales really cranked up these last couple of weeks...and I sold almost all of my vintage Christmas items...I literally filled almost the whole store with vintage Christmas...and now I can get all of what is left on one table!
I have begun the clean out process...I have been marking and pricing lots of goodies for our first annual "garage sale" that will take place BEHIND the store THIS coming SATURDAY, JANUARY 2nd (unless, God forbid...we have snow or sleet...) We are finally purging boxes and boxes from our basement and storage areas...so there should be lots of "stuff" to choose from...at garage sale prices!
so...I will post some sneak peeks this week...hope you can join us for the clean out sale!

vintage Monday...the end...

a vintage Nativity set from Japan...that I decided I needed to keep rather than sell...
More vintage ornaments...packaged up to sell...
some of my candy canes...they are not vintage, but they are made from vintage glass garland beads...
and finally, the icicles I created from vintage glass beads and tiny antique ornaments...and doesn't this gnome look like he could be Santa?...he is home, couldn't bear to sell him, either! (oh, the joys of trying to downsize...but some things you just can't give up!)...
I hope you all have a wonderful holiday...we had a fantastic open house weekend...and thanks to all that came by! Even had someone from over 100 miles away come to the store- cuz she read the blog!
and thank you to Joan from anything goes here...for being the hostess of vintage Mondays! It was so very fun to do! thanks, thanks, thanks!!!

in memory of...and...remember...

my mom died at Christmas three years ago...and there is no other time of year that I think of her more...this is the mouse that I bought her when I was a teenager...spent about 25 dollars back then (30 plus years ago)...that was a lot of money for me...and now he has a broken tail and chips...but I so love him...
Mom gave me this candle holder a few years before she died...it is part of a mini shrine that is on my bookshelf in her honor...,
this Mary was given to me at my first Communion...reminds me of a simpler day...no computers or emails or facebook...just cards and pretty dresses and bonnets...(oh, this ages me...)
and this picture...one of my very favorite possessions ever...my mom did this bumpy paint by number picture when she was young...and I am so lucky to have it...
why this post now? It is the most wonderful time of year, and for some the most stressful. Family members that you don't see often, Christmas trees that get put up...(and don't know about you, but how many lights and where it goes in the room, and who fills it with water every day...you get the picture)...and sometimes, for some, some sad memories...
If your parents are still alive, or if you don't tell your kids that you love them every day, I would suggest that you do...there are so many moments that I wish I had told my mom more often...and now that chance is gone.

I am happy to say that our tree event went so very well this year- my teenager made the decisions this year about lights. He chose BLUE lights (never, ever have I had blue lights!)...and he strung them himself. Wasn't sure how I would like that...but I feel like I am living in WHOVILLE...and I LOVE it!!! (pics on another post...)
so...hope your holidays(and events leading up to it...) are fun , stress free...and I hope you say" I LOVE YOU" to those you love...

vintage Christmas Monday...

pinks, purple and aqua...
this is one of my faves, I love the castle look to it...

oh...I love the holidays!
HAPPY VINTAGE MONDAY!!!

Monticello Christmas show booth- check out those Shiny Brites!

ahhh...cupcake shiny brites (thanks for the idea- GAIL!)...
my mantle...and more shiny brites...
the love sick frogs...and more shiny brites...
more shiny brites atop a wicker trunk...
and a cute little cart on wheels...and more, more, more...shiny brites!
the story...
It was one of those things...I was asked if I wanted to do this show, right after the spring show. Touched base with the folks at Monticello a couple of months ago, and found out my space was 5 feet by 10 feet, same as in the spring. Well, I found a couple of 7 feet long tables, that I would put on either side, with my mantle in the back.
well, the space was 10 feet LONG, and 5 feet DEEP...sooooo....when I got my tables there, I realized that they were...NOT GOING TO WORK!!! so all of my planning...I had to "punt"...I don't know why I thought the tables would work...and I had to use the mantle...so...it was an interesting set-up...took an extra 2 days just cuz I was thrown...you know...the in brain plan wasn't the same as the REAL plan...
so here are my pics...not really the booth I had dreamed of...but it turned out...ok...it does have lots of shiny brites...and special garden items...always my favorite this time of year- statuary...any time of year is good for statuary...so...my Monticello set up was a bit flustered and surreal...but when I stopped by there this morning, there must have been hundreds of folks shopping...so hopefully I will be empty and need to restock tomorrow!
have a super great weekend- supposed to be super chilly here...so bundle up!
